Neck Liposuction in Durango & Pagosa Springs, CO
Excess fat in the neck can be caused by multiple factors and distract from the contour of the chin and jaw. The degree of excess fat, the distribution of the excess fat, and the patient’s overall weight are key factors that the surgeon evaluates to determine the best technique for improvement. There are several methods that may be used to reduce the excess fat. Less invasive techniques include techniques such as Kybella® injections. Kybella® may need to be injected multiple times to achieve the desired result. More invasive techniques include liposuction. Liposuction offers the benefit of less treatments (typically just 1) to achieve correction.
What is involved in a neck liposuction procedure?
Neck liposuction may be done in the office under local anesthesia and generally takes 45-90 minutes. 1 to 3 small incisions will be made in concealable locations such as behind the ear or under the chin. The surgeon will use these incisions to insert small cannulas through which the excess fat is removed. Under local anesthesia, you are awake during the procedure, but you may sense pressure or vibration.
What is involved in recovery?
Swelling and burning are common reactions to liposuction procedures. Swelling typically subsides within 1 to 2 weeks and tightness should diminish within a few months. Mild discomfort may occur but should not hinder day-to-day tasks. You will be instructed in compression of the sites using an elastic band, and this compression should be done as much as possible for the first week. After that, continued night-time compression will be encouraged for up to 3 months.
