Reshape Your Arms with an Arm Tuck in Durango, Colorado
Often due to a combination of multiple factors, patients may have loose skin and or fat of the upper arms which cause a loose or sagging appearance. Common causes of this loose skin are weight loss and loss of elasticity with aging. Toning and shaping the arms through exercise is often the first step to lay a proper foundation for rejuvenating the look of the upper arms. Unfortunately, if leftover skin and fat remains after this, surgical removal through an arm tuck (brachioplasty) may be the only way to further rejuvenated the arms.
Brachioplasty Procedure
During the Brachioplasty, Dr. Williams will make incisions in a part of the arm which is naturally hidden when the arms are naturally positioned at the side of the body. While there is no perfect place to hide the scar on the upper arm, this placement is the least visible during normal everyday activities. As with all contouring procedures, the patient should be willing to accept a scar for a better contour.
After the incision is made, Dr. Williams will remove excess skin and fat to contour the upper arm. The incision is then closed with multiple layers of suture. The surgery is typically carried out in the operating room and takes approximately 3 to 4 hours.
During the recovery period, patients will need to wear a compression garment to ensure that the best contour is achieved. Many patients will experience sensations such as, but not limited to, burning, stinging, and/or numbness of the surgical sites; this typically resolves with time. One surgical drain is typically placed in each arm, and they are removed around 1 to 2 weeks after surgery. Scarring on the upper arm carries one of the highest risks of hypertrophic scarring, and you will receive instructions on how to treat the scars to make it as inconspicuous scar as possible.
