Breast Augmentation (augmentation mammoplasty, breast implants) is one of the most common surgical procedures that Dr. Williams performs. Breast augmentation is commonly used to provide a fuller appearance to the breasts and may aide in lifting the nipples. There are numerous ways to perform this procedure, and Dr. Williams can help you navigate the variances of surgical incisions, types of implants, and placement of the implants. He uses only FDA-approved saline or silicone implants which are manufactured in the United States.
Undergoing breast augmentation is an important decision and you should be comfortable with the surgeon who will perform your breast enhancement. As with any surgery, there are risks associated with breast augmentation. Dr. Williams will spend time with you in order to determine your goals, discuss your options, and answer any questions you have regarding breast augmentation. Most of all, Dr. Williams hopes that you leave the consultation with a complete understanding of the procedure as well as the benefits, risks, and alternatives.
Types of Breast Implants
There are basically two types of implants, silicone and saline. During your in-depth consultation, Dr. Williams can help you decide which options work best for your particular goals, body type, and activity level. In addition to implants, fat grafting can also be done to improve the volume of the breasts in a natural way.
- Silicone- Form stable, shaped, ‘gummy bear’, round, textured and smooth
- Saline- Textured and smooth
Types of Breast Augmentation Incisions
Your surgeon will use a small incision to place the implant. There are many different types of incisions which are used in breast augmentation:
- Incision in the fold underneath the breast (inframammary augmentation)
- Incision on lower half of the areola (periareolar augmentation)
- Incision in the armpit (axillary augmentation)
- Incision in the belly button (umbilical augmentation)
To make the scars as inconspicuous as possible, Dr. Williams typically utilizes either inframammary incisions or periareaolar incisions.
Breast Augmentation Procedure
The procedure typically takes 2 to 3 hours. During this process, Dr. Williams’ goal is to achieve a natural and attractive look. Typically, breast augmentation is performed as an outpatient procedure which means you go home after the surgery.
