Peak Rejuvenation - Face Procedures

There is a strong demand today for fuller lips. Fillers, fat transfer (grafting), and implants are two of the most common ways that surgeons use to augment the shape and look of the lips. Results and longevity of augmentation vary based on the technique and substance used to perform the augmenatation.

Filler-type augmentations are performed using an injectable substance such as hyaluronic acid, bovine-based collagen, or human-based collagen. There are few side effects to this type of augmentation, and downtime is minimal with activity modification for 24 hours. Since the fillers often contain local anesthetics, additional anesthesia is typically not needed.

Fat grafting is a process by which fat is harvested from other parts of the body and then placed in small quantities (aliquots) with the aid of a small blunt cannula. Generally, this procedure may be done in the office using local anesthesia. Downtime is minimal, and activity modification with activities may be recommended post-operatively.

Lip implants are made of inert substances such as silicone. Using small incisions, the surgeon creates a tunnel to place the implant. A permanent, non-resorbable, implant is placed. Sutures are used to close the incision sites. Generally, this procedure may be done in the office using local anesthesia. Downtime of this technique is generally minimal, and modification of lip animation with activities such as eating may be recommended postoperatively.
