Chin Enhancement for Men
The shape of the chin is influenced primarily by your genetic attributes. Whether your chin is prominent, clefted, or weak, it helps establish the overall foundational look of the face. In men, the look of the chin contributes to a chiseled look. In women, the roundness of the chin helps give the facial shape an ovoid and youthful appearance. Chin Enhancement can be carried out in a number of fashions using such modalities as fillers and implants.
Filler-type augmentations are performed using an injectable substance such as hyaluronic acid, bovine-based collagen, or human-based collagen. There are few side effects to this type of augmentation, and downtime is minimal with activity modification for 24 hours. Since the fillers often contain local anesthetics, additional anesthesia is typically not needed.
Chin implants are made of inert substances such as silicone. Using small incisions, the surgeon creates a tunnel to place the implant. A permanent, non-resorbable, implant is placed. Sutures are used to close the incision sites. Depending on the correction needed, this procedure may be performed in the office using local anesthesia or in the operating room under general anesthesia. Downtime of this technique is generally minimal, and small modifications of activities such as eating may be recommended post-operatively.
