Eyelid Lift & Tuck (Blepharoplasty) for Men
Excessive skin of the eyelids is very common and may contribute to functional concerns such as impaired vision (peripheral vision). Furthermore, excessive fat of the eyelids may cause ta tired and aged appearance. Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery is a commonly performed procedure that involves the removal of excess skin, muscle, and/or fat from the upper and lower eyelids. The goal of blepharoplasty is to improve the vision, achieve a refreshed appearance, or both.
Eyelid surgery may be combined with brow or forehead lifts, if indicated.
Eyelid Surgery Procedure
Depending on the complexity of the correction, the procedure generally takes 60 to 120 minutes. In upper blepharoplasty, the surgeon will place incisions in the creases of the upper eyelid. In lower blepharoplasty, the cosmetic surgeon will place incisions along the lower rim of the eyelid, just below the eyelashes. Once the incision is made, the excessive skin, muscle, and fat may be removed, if indicated.
This procedure may be done either under local anesthesia in the office or under general anesthesia in the operating room. Typically, patients may go home a few hours after the procedure.
Eyelid Surgery may be performed in conjunction with other procedures such as facelift or brow and forehead lift.
Post Op Care
To help reduce swelling and bruising after this surgery, a low activity level should be maintained for the first 5 to 7 days after surgery. For the first 3 days after surgery, cold compression will also help. Many patients report that Arnica montana and Bromelain helps mitigate bruising and swelling.
